PRINCIPLES OF POTENCIAL HYDROGEN (PH)

All the nutrients in the world will do a plant no good if it cannot absorb them easily.  A major factor in determining a plant’s ability to uptake nutrients is the relative acidity, or PH (Potential Hydrogen) of the soil or solution from which they feed.  PH is measured on a scale of 1-14 and represents the concentration of hydrogen ions in solution. Generally, it is used to determine whether a solution is acidic or basic. A 1 on the scale represents a low ion concentration or acid. Pure water is considered neutral at a pH of 7.  A 14 on the scale represents the highest concentration of ions (basic, alkaline). Some nutrients may become unavailable to the plant if the solution PH drifts from an optimal reading, which for most plants is between 5.5 and 6.5.  This condition is called nutrient lockout.  By regularly monitoring PH and PPM (parts per million) you will have the ability to make corrections to your nutrient solutions and as a result achieve optimum growth, fruiting and flowering of your plants.
An unusually high PH will decrease the availability of Iron, Manganese, Boron, Copper, Zinc and Phosphorous.  A PH that is too low will reduce availability of Potassium,
Sulphur, Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorous. PH is one of the most important factors in successful growing. It makes your nutrients available to your plants. If you are feeding your plants from a recirculating nutrient tank change the nutrient solution every 2 weeks. The PH in your nutrients can change as plants uptake what they need from the solution and it returns into the tank. Use any leftover solution to water houseplants or your other outside plants. PH in your nutrients and in your soil can be tested with a simple PH Meter like the ones we offer to get it right. Stop all nutrients 7 to 14 days before harvesting.

PH METERS IN OUR SPECIALS SECTION!

TERRAPONICS MILWAUKEE PH METER
We have PH METERS in our specials section while they last! Make perfect nutrient solutions every time and make your plants fluorish with a PH meter. Every serious grower cannot be without a PH meter. By preparing your nutrient solutions at the correct PH your plants will actually use the nutrients available in your solution. By using the wrong PH when feeding your plants not only will they not uptake certain nutrients you can even cause fertilizer burn, plant stress and other detrimental effects. No matter what you grow get it right every time with a PH meter. Soil PH can also be tested as well as testing the PH of your runoff solutions. Check our specials section for PH meters, Nutrient meters and other growing products! PH Meter-$48.00 ea.
