THE GREENHOUSE

Those of us growers fortunate enough to have a greenhouse to grow our plants in need to know that the most important thing we can do to ensure our plants grow properly with the correct light spectrums is to choose the right greenhouse covering. It makes all the difference in the world as far as how well our plants grow. Choosing the wrong greenhouse covering is probably the biggest single mistake we could make in preparing the greenhouse properly. The wrong type of covering blocks out the correct needed light spectrums and the plants inside the greenhouse suffer big time in optimal growth. Many people who select the wrong type of covering can do everything else right and still always be confused as to why the plants do not grow well.

The most economical method of covering a greenhouse structure is by the use of Greenhouse Poly Film. Think regular clear visqueen bought at a hardware store or home improvement store like Home Depot is good for plant growing? Absolutely wrong! Nothing could be further from the truth. Regular clear visqueen will not only have a short life before the sun’s UV rays break it down and it crumbles away, it does not even come close to filtering the sun’s rays letting the good plant growth rays in and blocking the bad rays out.

High Technology has been introduced to the latest editions of Greenhouse Poly Films including Infrared (IR) wavelength filters that help block harmful rays from the plants and, as a result, making cooler temperatures due to reduced harmful radiation. Another improvement are the anti condensate (AC) additives to the film that reduce water droplets from forming on the film that block and distort the light rays before they reach the plants. In addition to these features overall PAR quality has been improved greatly. Filtering of the light spectrum greatly enhances the quality of light inside the greenhouse. Much better PAR quality has enabled Greenhouse Poly Film to transmit much better blue and red wavelengths to the plants resulting in much better growth conditions inside the greenhouse.
An excellent greenhouse covering is a 6 mil thick IR/AC 4 year
Greenhouse Poly Film. This type of poly film makes all the difference in the world for growing plants in a greenhouse. Don't skimp on the most important single item for your greenhouse.

PROPER VENTILATION IN THE GREENHOUSE

Every greenhouse needs proper air circulation if the plants inside are to thrive. Air circulation is very important, not only for the health of the plants but to eliminate many problems like fungus growth and plant pests. Many problems like fungus gnats, powdery mildew and plant diseases can be eliminated when a greenhouse is properly ventilated either with air vents that open at the ends of each side of the greenhouse or with air fans or with both of these. Plants also grow much better with air movement drying the stomata on their leaves so that they can better perform their needed functions of excreting waste fertilizers and take in needed oxygen. Stomata are the tiny pores on the undersides of the leaves that carry out these important plant functions. You can actually use these stomata to fertilize the plants and to induce carbon dioxide into the plants.
Carbon dioxide generators are sometimes used in plant growing operations especially for the purpose of using the plant's stomata to grow bigger and more lush plants. Many growers foliar feed the undersides of the leaves for the same reasons-better plant growth directly through the plants stomata. Many times plants with bad air circulation have their stomata pores clogged with very high humidity and even dust and cannot carry out their natural bodily functions and this can result in over fertilization of the plants and other detrimental effects. Plants need lots of air to grow properly-not only around their leaves but in the root zone as well.
